'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith resumes contest with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the dramatic final moments of Swansea's epic comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses amid the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a long-range effort from distance, and the defender immediately slammed home the rebound before racing off toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with supporters congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory completed an incredible recovery given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 during the latter period. During the delirium, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result earned a upcoming match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's first-time shot from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for having a go from that distance," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right flank after they changed tactics. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the opposition who complimented the way his former team attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they know how to control and slow down a game. You can think you're doing well and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It demands a tough attitude and concentration just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side pushed to sign Galbraith in January and secured his signature to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He became a favorite as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has swiftly done the same in Wales. At Orient he joined forces once more with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at fourth-tier Salford, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without serious challenge. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that development for club and country, excelling for his national side, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the past five games, including home and away fixtures against Germany. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a killer pass.

Starting Out

It has been quite the ride for the kid from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his parent, his father, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's single match for the Red Devils came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was closed owing to temperatures of -15C. "That proved to be a long trip and it was cold out there," he comments, grinning. "The preceding week, several youth players and I trained together, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to leave United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "This turned out fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I understood I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm hugely grateful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I felt I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

New Environment

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include a teammate, Ronald, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to spend time with the lads but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on London's Central line after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
